WORKSHOP. EVERY SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 10am to 12pm.

LEARN HOW TO BUILD THE ULTIMATE BACKYARD FOOD PRODUCTION SYSTEM
BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT AND FOOD INDEPENDENT

Aquaponics is the integration of aquaculture (growing fish) and hydroponic (growing soil less plants) systems that mutually benefits both environments in a symbiotic way. Aquaponics uses no toxic chemicals, requires one tenth or 10% or less of the water needed for field plant production and only a fraction of the water that is used for fish culture (Aquaculture). The waste from fish tanks is treated with natural bacteria that converts the waste, largely ammonia, first to nitrite and then to nitrate. The fish waste absorbed by plants is pumped to a bio-filter system as a nutrient solution for the growing plants (Grow Bed). The only external input to the system is food for the fish. Both systems complement each other as a single unit, not as separate units.

You will learn which set up (system) is better for you depending on your needs
Learn which media works best for each system and the different types
We'll teach the pros and cons of each system (We have 4 different systems going)
1. NFT. New Film Technique
2. EBB & FLOW OR GRAVEL
3. DUTCH BUCKET with drip irrigation and siphons
4. DEEP WATER CULTURE OR RAFT SYSTEM.
Build your own mini system with recycled material or very inexpensive locally available materials and start experimenting with different crops. You might already have some things we can use to build it.
Learn how to germinate seeds on all kinds of different media for each system
Learn how each system works and the how to successfully start your system
Learn how to maximize your space, nutrients and resources
Learn about energy efficient , inexpensive proven equipment.
Learn which types of fish work better for our climate
Learn the chemistry of aquaponics
Learn how to build the Ultimate siphons for aeration with recycled materials.

Have fun learning while growing your own delicious organic, natural food
This workshop will be for 2 session of 1 ½ hour each on Saturday Starting
March 3 and 10 from 10 to 11:30 am. Class fills up quick
The cost for the workshop is $75 for single person, $100 for Couples (spouses) for both sessions and it includes: 5 Golden Sunfish/Tilapia Fingerlings per paid registration and $5 materials to build siphons for your system(optional)
Group is limited to 8 to 10 people at a time to maximize the learning experience.
